Week VI (cont'd)
1. The FY04 Rate Card Comparison was revised again. Though the changes are minor they are plentiful. I anticipate it will take a good chunk of time out of my day to complete it (afternote: I was able to complete it before the holiday weekend).
2. Asked to work on a new project involving IMS. Essentially I was asked to generate a comparison report for three markets. The report will juxtapose the Household demo with Women 25-54. These will lay the foundation for a media plan that will include broadcast - TV and Radio - and print. Once these reports are processed on IMS they will serve as a benchmark allowing us to compare the way IMS processes data and coverage to the ways in which we used to gather the information in the past (pre-ims).
3. Attended weekly status meeting and departmental lunch. This was our longest status meeting @ 2 hours. I was given a laundry list of assignments and projects that should keep me busy for the duration of the summer (a little hyperbole).
Note: Tomorrow is July 4th - no work.

Week VI (cont'd)
1. Spent the morning and the majority of the afternoon (until 4pm) off-site. We scouted out the location for a new AJ GO, met with a vendor, drove around the streets/routes, assessed competition (through various, interesting methods), etc. This experience was really practical, in the strictest sense. I met account managers in the field, away from our Home Office, ventured to an actual location, spoke with managers of nearby retailers, and did a lot of competitive observation. It's unbelievable how much more one can glean from "the streets" than from sitting in an office. The drive, which was a fairly long one, was also a great opportunity to shoot the breeze with my boss and a co-worker as well as gain more insights into how the business works - after all, that's what this day was about.

Week VI (cont'd)
1. Worked on more coverage reports and heat maps for another AJ Wright GO.
2. Attended AJ GO meeting. Media Plan options were discussed as well as some important changes and considerations. We also discussed a few other GOs that are pending.
3. Spent the better part of my afternoon working with TMCs in iBuy. Initially we were going to do the entire setup, but our application provider agreed to take on the foundational work. They completed their portion but a good deal must now be done on our end in order to activate the TMCs and make sure they show up etc. This includes adding contracts, assigning reps, assigning DMAs, etc. That's what I am doing...

Week VI
1. Began a new wave of calls to the reps. who still owe me contract materials.
2. Completed running coverage reports and maps for Preprint and ROP for the new GO's. The maps allow us to visually see newspaper coverage, for each paper, as applied to our trade radii. Therefore we can see our penetration in a given zip code, county, etc. Additionally, we have the capability to overlay this coverage with demographics (be it VALS, Gender, or Ethnicity). To be sure this is a very powerful, not to mention useful, tool. To supplement the maps we also work with a coverage report resembling an excel spreadsheet. It lists similar information in a quantitative, columnar format. Also generated excel spreadsheets for ROP and Preprint (for each GO) delineating coverage - for future reference.
3. Ran some reports in SQAD - specifically ones that show us CPP (Cost Per Point) for TV in a given market.
4. Attended a departmental, two-hour luncheon with one of our advertising agencies. They debuted the fall network TV lineup. We watched clips of all the new shows and heard some conjecture as to which network would lead what night, demographic, etc. It was both entertaining and informative.
