Day IV
I spent the first part of my day making some changes to the Marshalls ROP spreadsheet. I also Installed new software package, IMS, which allows us to do media planning and research for Print, Radio, TV, as well as a separate program, MediaMix. These programs will calculate Reach, GRPs, and other key factors like coverage based on demographics and the vendors we have chosen in our prospective campaigns. The software is installed on my system, which means I will likely be the benchmark user for IMS. Following, we had a goodbye party for an exiting associate in our media group. Afterwards I completed FY04 for TJMaxx. All that remains now for the Rate Comparison document is the "comment" column. At the end of the day I began a review of some of the literature I have received upon arrival, such as "Consumer Media Usage" and a comprehensive media glossary (to further enhance my familiarity with Advertising).

Day III
My internet is still down which means that I can't really do all of the research I need to do on some new software vendors. I received new ROP figures for FY04 for Marshalls and Maxx today so I continued the process of updating the Rate Comps. - I finished Marshalls. I also sat in on a meeting with one of the VP's of Marketing outlining some of the companies Code of Conduct policies and clarifying some issues. It was really nice to see some Organizational Behavior at play, especially in a Fortune 500 corporation! I spoke again with my boss, at length, and gave her and update and acquired some new responsibilities. I was also informed of the possibility of the company sending me and a co-worker to Las Vegas for a media technology conference.

Day II
After sorting out some computer issues I began work on the Rate Comparisons for Marshalls. Essentially, I carried out the same procedures and methods as I did yesterday with TJMaxx. It is about 75% complete. Once I update the ROPs for Marshalls and TJ's I will need to contact the vendors or do additional research in order to 'justify' any percentage increases >10%. Following a late lunch break, I met one-on-one with the trainer to finalize the information session on iAnalyze. It looks as though I have a pretty good grasp of the software, I'm excited to begin using it. I also found out that we're getting an additional, new, software package - a project for which, it seems, I will be taking the lead.

Day I
We had an orientation at 9am in the morning where we proceeded to meet our respective supervisors. I met with my supervisor, Vicki Manning, and discussed expectations (on both of our behalves) for my internship. She introduced me to other people in the Media group with whom I will be working closely throughout the summer. After I was situated - they gave me a great desk with a computer, phone, etc - I dove right into work. My first task was to update the Rate Comparisons (for media: newspaper) for Marshalls and TJMaxx. Essentially, we wanted to see the percentage change (increase or decrease) in media costs for a variety of newspapers in our different US target groups. Following a brief lunch break I, in addition to some of my coworkers, took part in a 3 hour training session to familiarize us with iBuy and iAnalyze. These tools are vast information powerhouses allowing us to easily purchase media, newspaper specifically, view demographics (combined with topography) and generate countless reports.
